(1) I have tried with 100s of unique nodes with 2x or 3x edges, and it was able to plot quite fast. That said, I am not sure about thousands of nodes and edges. Do let me know if your data is big and if you faced some issues.

(2) This is a good feature to have, but sadly not supported by Jaal. I will explore more and create a feature issue if this is possible and realitively easy.
